Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider handles the query and results under its own systems; Shelby County Criminal History does not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Data We Gather Automatically
Page requests automatically supply ordinary technical and usage details to the servers, including:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Referring website, when one is supplied
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on visited pages
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers combine those usage signals. Browser controls can reject cookies, although blocking them may change how some site features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Routing a search to the selected outside provider
- Maintaining reliable and responsive pages
- Understanding which content is useful or needs revision
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site neither maintains nor sells a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by Shelby County courts, the sheriff, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into third-party files or consumer reports, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, rather than this policy, govern information entered there. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links to courts, sheriffs, state agencies, legal-aid groups, and search providers open sites controlled by others. Their privacy policy applies after departure from this site. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics services measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a submitted query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks placing ads on the pages
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards protect collected information. No internet system is completely secure, however, and this policy cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Notice that a minor supplied information will lead to its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights may also arise under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, T.C.A. §§ 47-18-101 et seq., and other law applicable to a visitor's residence. Available requests may include:
- Opt out of certain processing where law permits
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Ask for access to personal information held about you
- Seek deletion of qualifying data
Updates to This Policy
Future policy revisions will appear on this page with a new effective date. Visitors should review the current version for the latest handling practices.
